FARIDABAD NEWS 12 SEP 2026 : GAUTAM : The National Power Training Institute (NPTI), in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), organised a one-day national workshop on the potential and effective use of 5G technology in the power sector to promote reliable, secure and efficient communication systems. More than 100 participants from across the country attended the workshop.
The inaugural session was attended by Shri Hemant Jain, Director General, NPTI and Member (Grid Operation & Distribution), Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and Patron; Shri Anil Kumar Gupta, Director General, Telecommunications; Shri Radhacharan Shakya, ITS, Additional Director General & Head, Haryana LSA; and Shri Sanjay Kumar Jindal, Deputy Director General, Telecommunications. The programme was coordinated by Dr. S. Selvam, Principal Director, NPTI.
In his inaugural address, Shri Hemant Jain emphasised the need for greater coordination and collaboration between the power and telecommunications sectors. He stated that both sectors are significantly interdependent and that the effective use of 5G technology can enhance communication, monitoring, control and operational efficiency in the power sector. Real-time transmission of information can enable timely identification of potential technical issues and incidents, facilitating prompt corrective action. He further highlighted that such technological advancements can also contribute significantly towards realising the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.
Shri Anil Kumar Gupta, Director General, Telecommunications, highlighted the objective of the workshop and stated that it aimed to understand the transformative potential of 5G technology in the power sector and strengthen the capabilities of technical professionals and faculty members through expert sessions, technical discussions and knowledge exchange.
During the workshop, experts held detailed technical sessions on key topics including Private 5G Networks, Smart Grid Communication, SCADA/PLC Integration, IoT, AI/ML Applications, Cybersecurity, Spectrum Regulation, and 5G-enabled Network Operations in Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Systems.
The workshop provided a common platform for experts, technical professionals and academicians from the power and telecommunications sectors to exchange knowledge and experiences, thereby promoting digital transformation and technological innovation in the power sector through 5G technology.
