FARIDABAD NEWS 10 MARCH 2026 : GAUTAM ; The two-day National Symposium on “Emerging Trends in Biotechnology for Sustainable Development”, organized by the Department of Life Sciences of J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, today started to explore biotechnology's role in addressing global challenges like climate resilience, food security, and environmental sustainability.
The program was inaugurated with marked by ceremonial lamp lighting in the presence of Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajive Kumar. Dr. Amulya Panda, Associate Director, Panacea Biotec Ltd, New Delhi, was Chief Guest in the inaugural session.
Prof. Sachin Teotia, Convener of the National Symposium, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the department's rapid growth since its establishment in 2020 and its mission to foster innovative, indigenous solutions in biological sciences. He said that the symposium serves as a vital platform for interdisciplinary collaboration, bridging academia, industry, and policy to drive sustainable biotechnological advancements.
Presiding over the session, Prof. Rajive Kumar, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of J.C. Bose University, emphasized the transformative potential of biotechnology in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He highlighted biotechnologists as essential architects of renewal and resilience in the face of global crises, including war-like conflicts. He noted how these disruptions cause supply chain breakdowns, food, energy shortages, and mass displacement, positioning biotechnology as a critical tool for recovery. He underscored the revolutionary integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with biotechnology as a cornerstone for tackling global crises like climate change, food insecurity, and health vulnerabilities.
In this keynote address, Dr. Panda's lecture on “Cellular Engineering: The Future Medicine” delved into how cellular reprogramming is advancing personalized therapeutics, aligning seamlessly with Prof. Kumar's vision of sustainable health innovations. “Biotechnology is not just about discovery; it's about deploying scalable solutions that enhance human health while respecting planetary limits,” Dr. Panda stated.
Post-lunch Session featured plenary lectures on climate-resilient agriculture and microbial engineering. Dr. Ramu S. Vemanna from the Regional Centre for Biotechnology, Faridabad, spoke on “Reprogramming Plants for a Sustainable Bioeconomy: Biotechnology for Climate-Resilient Agriculture”, focusing on CRISPR for drought-tolerant crops. Dr. Kumar Pranaw, Associate Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi “Exopolysaccharide-Producing Rhizobacteria: Nature’s Hidden Engineers of Crop Stress Resilience”, exploring eco-friendly microbial aids.
In the industry expert lecture, Dr. Kavish Kumar Jain, Director of DE3PBIO Technologies India Private Limited, Faridabad, spoke on biomanufacturing's practical impacts. Parallel oral presentations by young scientists were also conducted, where they showcased emerging research.
